Diablo IV's Season 10 introduces an exciting new seasonal equipment system: Chaos Armor

Time: 2025-09-16

Season of Infernal Chaos launches September 23. Mephisto’s influence tears the veil between worlds, unleashing the Fell Council and spreading Chaos Rifts across Sanctuary. Hunt Chaos Armor, unlock powerful perks, and disrupt their destructive plot. Challenge the all-new boss Bartuc, Lord of Chaos, in permanent Infernal Hordes content.

Season of Infernal Chaos at a Glance

Seal Chaos Rifts to earn Viz-Jaq’taar Veneration and unlock Magic, Rare, and Legendary Chaos Perks via the Reputation board. Defeat Bartuc on Torment Tiers for Unique Chaos Perks. Upgrade perks using Infernal Warp from sealing rifts and defeating chaos enemies. Chaos Armor drops from multiple sources—Bartuc guarantees drops in Torment III/IV.

Something Dastardly Stirs in the Seasonal Questline

After strange events in Ked Bardu, join assassin Shyan of the Viz-Jaq’taar to hunt a new demonic threat. Track the Fell Council’s Chaos Rifts and uncover the return of Bartuc—a sign of Mephisto’s influence. Begin the "Sands of Chaos" quest by speaking to the distraught villager in Ked Bardu.

Infernal Hordes Reborn
Bartuc's return ignites the Infernal Hordes, intensifying hell's fury like never before. This update introduces Chaos Waves, the Fell Council, and Bartuc himself—transforming battles into chaotic, high-stakes confrontations.

Chaos Waves

Chaos Waves are special Infernal Offerings that transform standard combat waves into intense, rule-breaking encounters. Appearing randomly between waves, they dramatically increase the difficulty by introducing chaotic challenges. Face deadly projectiles from Chaos Rifts, battle a rampaging Hellwyrm, or hunt erratic Aether Goblins. These high-risk trials are not for the faint of heart but reward those who survive with significantly more Aether. With many combinations to discover and master, Chaos Waves bring relentless havoc and extreme challenges to your journey through hell.

Confront Bartuc, Lord of Chaos

At the end of Infernal Hordes, choose your final challenge: battle the proven Fell Council, or risk it all against Bartuc, the Lord of Chaos.

Dialing up the Heat in the Infernal Hordes

Infernal Hordes has been dialed up with key changes to moment-to-moment combat. Infernal Offerings between waves have been reworked to make all choices feel valid and balanced—especially compared to the previously essential Hellborne wave—allowing more focused and diverse runs.

A new monster family, Chaos Monsters, now emerges from the depths. Killing Chaos Bringers grants a temporary shrine-like buff. Using the Urn of Sustain seasonal blessing extends its duration, and skilled players can stack buffs by defeating another Bringer before the current one expires.

Additionally, the entrance to the Infernal Hordes now opens much faster, inviting bold wanderers to dive into the Burning Hells without delay.

The Fell Council

The Fell Council has been restructured—now, one member becomes the empowered Council Speaker during combat, enhancing their threat.

Additionally, the new Fleeting Hordes mode offers a shorter version of Infernal Hordes for players progressing through pre-Tournament Tiers. This condensed experience features only four waves and limited Infernal Offerings to help control the demonic onslaught. Upon finishing the final wave, you'll battle two members of the Fell Council before spending your earned Aether on rewards.

Bartuc Beckons

Bartuc, the infamous Vizjerei Warlord known for his cruelty in the Mage Clan Wars, has returned to Sanctuary as the Lord of Chaos. To challenge him, one party member must spend Aether to select the fight—locking in the choice for the entire group.

In battle, Bartuc uses Chaos portals to launch deadly projectiles and deploys a malevolent arsenal. Use teleport pads strategically to evade his attacks and gain an advantage. Like other bosses this season, he becomes invulnerable only after the first 10 seconds of combat.

Defeating Bartuc rewards loot directly on the ground—no extra Aether required to claim your prizes.

Harness Entropy with Chaos Armor

Harness the unpredictable force of Chaos with new Chaos Armor—a more powerful and versatile version of existing Unique items. Designed for Sanctuary’s boldest warriors, these items transcend their original slots, enabling unprecedented build possibilities.

Chaos Armor can appear in Helm, Chest, Gloves, Pants, or Boots slots—but never in their original slot. For example, Flickerstep may now appear as a Chaos Helm. These items feature distinct name colors, always roll with max-level Aspects, include at least one Greater Affix, and are more potent than standard Uniques.

Note: You cannot equip both the standard and Chaos version of the same Unique.

Defeat Bartuc in Torment III or IV for a guaranteed drop, or try Torment I and II for a chance. This season, redefine carnage through theorycrafting with Chaos Armor.

Seal Chaos Rifts

Chaos Rifts—portals of crackling energy—have emerged across Sanctuary, spewing forth demons from the Burning Hells. Appearing in Helltide and Nightmare Dungeons, these rifts can be sealed by defeating the emerging enemies to earn seasonal reputation, Infernal Warp (for upgrading Chaos Perks), and valuable loot including EXP, gems, and Chaos Armor in Torment.

In rare cases, a Mythical Chaos Rift may appear at Torment level, offering extreme danger and greater rewards.

Chaos Rift Nightmare Dungeons

Chaos Rifts have infested Nightmare Dungeons, unleashing waves of Chaos Monsters. Sealing these rifts rewards Hordes Compasses and loot similar to Helltide events. Additionally, being hit by Chaos Portal attacks no longer increases damage taken.

Wield Devastating Chaos Perks

Chaos has descended upon Sanctuary, twisting your abilities with devastating new Perks—though such power often comes at a cost.

Chaos Perks alter how your skills function, enabling deep buildcraft and explosive combinations. They come in four rarities: Magic, Rare, Legendary, and Unique. Non-Unique Perks enhance or modify skills, while Unique Perks can redefine your entire build.

You may equip three non-Unique and one Unique Perk at a time. Each class has 16 Perks in total—including four class-exclusive ones—across all rarities.

Progress through the Seasonal Reputation board to unlock Perks. Defeat Bartuc in Infernal Hordes (Torment I+) for a chance at Unique Perks, and collect Infernal Warp from Chaos Monsters to upgrade them.

Lair Boss Invulnerability Changes

Responding to community feedback, we’ve redesigned Lair Boss invulnerability mechanics. Invulnerability phases now cannot activate until at least 10 seconds into the fight. Additionally, players can now completely skip these phases by dealing sufficient damage during key health thresholds.

When the boss reaches ⅔ and ⅓ health, it gains a five-second shield. At ⅔ health, the shield equals ⅓ of its maximum life; at ⅓ health, the shield equals ⅔ of its max life. If the shield is broken within the five-second window, the boss does not enter an invulnerability phase.
